Talk with a Counselor
Most CAPS counseling slots are reserved for as-needed, when-needed Counseling & Consultation visits. These visits open for online scheduling 8 days in advance. If you're ready to get started, simply schedule a Counseling & Consultation session through PatientLink when you need it, and we’ll go from there.
Do I need to be an "urgent case" to use CAPS urgent care?
You don't need to be an urgent case to use urgent care. Urgent care is a healthcare model that emphasizes immediate, time-limited support. This means that we're prioritizing timely care for you, whatever you're going through. Nothing is too big or too small to use urgent care.
If you are in a crisis or emergency, please call us instead of scheduling online. We have same-day crisis support options available for students in immediate need.

Find a Counselor with a Specific Background
We want you to start counseling with the best possible match. Search our providers by identities, specialty areas, treatment approaches, and payment options. Our site-based counselors also offer free mental health support through Cultural & Resource Centers, departments, and student centers.
We'll Help You Get Connected
At any point, you can talk with any CAPS provider about your goals, needs, and the kind of provider that would be the best match for you. If you'd like to meet with a CAPS counselor with a particular background or specialty area, let us know. We'll do our best to pair you with someone with that background or specialty area in our weekly case assignment meetings. If the best plan is outside of CAPS, our expert care coordinator team will work with you to get you connected.
Here are just a few of our specialty areas:
Set Up Ongoing or Long-Term Counseling
We've reserved the majority of our counseling appointments for CAPS Urgent Care Counseling & Consultation Sessions, which means most of our appointments are available for students to book online or by phone on an as-needed basis. We have limited slots for brief counseling and longer-term individual care, often given to students with access to fewer resources. If the best plan for you is longer-term, we'll collaborate with you in planning your next steps.
Two Ways to Explore Ongoing Counseling Options
Counseling & Consultation Sessions
In your appointment, you and your counselor will focus specifically on your goals and come up with an action plan together.
Free Resource & Referral Appointments
Our care coordination team will walk you through the process of finding the services outside of CAPS that fit you best.
Request Off-Campus Provider Information
You can request off-campus mental health provider information through PatientLink (click messages, new message, and select 'request a referral for an Off-Campus Mental Health Provider').
Talk with Someone about Medication
If you're on medication or you'd like to know if medication would benefit your mental health, we're here to guide you through the process. In our Counseling & Consultation sessions, counselors gather important information about your symptoms and mental health history that will help them make recommendations and referrals for your care. Whether your next step is medication management at CAPS, Campus Health, off-campus, or another service, your counselor will help you get connected.
Medication Options
Start, Restart, or Transfer a Medication: Schedule a Counseling & Consultation session to talk with a counselor about your symptoms and mental health history. They'll talk with you about your options.
ADHD Medication Management: The CAPS ADHD Clinic provides ADHD evaluations and short-term ADHD medication management. Speak with a counselor in a Counseling & Consultation session to plan your next steps.
Find an Off-Campus Provider: In our free Resource & Referral appointments, a care coordinator can help you find a psychiatrist outside of CAPS.
